Puerco Store

About Puerco Store

Our story, our passion, and the inside jokes that make us who we are.

Our Story

Puerco Store began in 2018 when a group of friends who shared a passion for card games decided to form a competitive team. What started as casual weekend meetups at local game stores quickly evolved into serious tournament preparation.

Our founder, Sofia Mendez, had just won her first Pokémon TCG tournament and convinced her friends to join forces. The name "Puerco Store" came from an inside joke during our first team dinner, where we ordered an absurd amount of pork dishes and joked about opening a specialty pork store if our card game careers didn't work out.

Over the years, we've grown from a small group of friends to a recognized name in the competitive card game scene, specializing in Pokémon TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Digimon TCG. We've expanded our interests to include poker nights and soccer matches as team-building activities.

Today, Puerco Store is more than just a competitive team—we're a community of passionate players who support each other both in and out of tournaments.

Team Values

Friendship First

Before competitors, we're friends. We believe that strong friendships lead to better teamwork and more enjoyment of the games we love.

Continuous Learning

The meta is always evolving, and so are we. We're committed to continuous improvement and adapting our strategies.

Community Support

We believe in giving back to the card game community through tutorials, charity events, and mentoring new players.

Fun Facts & Inside Jokes

The Legendary Misplay

During our first team tournament, Carlos accidentally played his prize cards instead of his hand in a crucial Pokémon TCG match. Somehow, he still won! We now yell "prize cards!" whenever someone is about to make a big play.

The Lucky Socks

Maria wore mismatched socks to a tournament and won the whole thing. Now, it's team tradition to wear mismatched socks during finals matches. Our opponents think we're superstitious (we are).

The Pork Ritual

Before major tournaments, we always have a team dinner at a BBQ restaurant and order "the whole pig" as we call it—at least one pork dish per person. It started with our name and became our pre-tournament ritual.

The Forbidden Card

We have a running joke about a certain Magikarp card being "cursed" after Diego lost three tournaments in a row with it in his deck. We framed the card and it hangs in our practice space as a reminder of what not to do.
